Tropical Chilli Caiprinha

Perhaps we don’t all have the opportunity to slip away this summer for a vacation on an exotic island, sipping on fruity concoctions as we watch the sunset. This week on Bar Top Chronicles, I present an opportunity to taste a bit of that flavor while relaxing under our own California sunsets at the end of your work days.

Recipe

2 pieces of sliced Jalapeno peppers

1 slice of orange

2 slices of lime quartered

2oz Leblon Cachaca

1/2oz Pineapple Juice

Muddle jalapeno, orange and lime wedges, just barely cracking the jalapeno pieces. Add cachaca and pineapple juice and shake with ice. Pour contents into a rocks glass and garnish with jalapeno, and an orange slice.

Creation & Inspiration

The traditional Caipirinha is the national cocktail of Brazil. Cachaca, the featured spirit of this drink is distilled from sugarcane juice. The tart taste is refreshing during the summer

and pairs nicely with meat dishes.

I have taken the liberty of adding a saucy twist with the merge of spice and tropical flavors. Since the pineapple was discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1493 on his second voyage of discovery, it has been symbolic of welcome, warmth, friendship and hospitality. The sweet pineapple juice replaces the refined sugar that would be added to the traditional caipirinha.

This exotic and fruity concoction is the perfect starter to a first date where light-hearted conversation and warm bread marks the beginning of a meaningful relationship. Taste it this week at Spice Affair in Beverly Hills with a serving of Chilli Pesto Naan.
